The schedule you’re held to

NFPA 10 at a glance

Four service tiers. Most properties handle the first one themselves and miss the 6-year. Here's who does what.

  1. Monthly Your staff

    Visual inspection

Check access, gauge, seal, and physical condition. No certification needed — building staff can do this.

  2. Annual Certified tech

    Maintenance exam

Mechanical parts, agent, and expelling means examined, then a new tag and tamper seal. Must be a qualified technician.

  3. 6 years Certified tech

    Internal examination

Stored-pressure units are emptied and opened to check for corrosion, caked agent, and internal damage.

  4. 5–12 yr Certified facility

    Hydrostatic test

The cylinder itself is pressure-tested. Fail it and the unit is condemned; pass and it's stamped and returned.

Intervals summarise NFPA 10 as commonly applied. Your authority having jurisdiction may require more, and the 5- or 12-year hydrostatic cycle depends on the extinguisher type. Call and we will confirm what applies to your property.

How it works

Three steps, no runaround

  1. 01 Call or send the details Property type, extinguisher count, and what prompted the call. That's usually all we need to scope it.
  2. 02 We confirm scope and schedule You get a clear answer on what's required, what it costs, and when we'll be there — before we roll a truck.
  3. 03 Serviced, tagged, documented Work performed on site, units tagged and sealed, and records left with you for the marshal or your insurer.

Questions we get

Before you call

The things property managers ask most often, answered plainly.

A visual check every month by your own staff, and a maintenance examination every year by a certified technician. On top of that, stored-pressure units need an internal examination at 6 years and a hydrostatic test at 5 or 12 years depending on type. Missing the multi-year intervals is the most common violation we find.

Tell us the property and the unit count

That is usually all we need to tell you what is required, what it costs, and when we can be there.
